I'm Alvin Orloff. I live in San Francisco's uber-trendy Mission district where I work at Dog Eared Books, a fab place for a bibliophile like me. I'm crazy for campy old movies and reading, but also enjoy cooking, thrifting, and museum attending. I tend to loiter around open mics and readings, but occasionally you'll find me frolicking in a park or disreputable niteclub. Random facts: I'm 45years old (but can pass for 42); prefer hot, dry weather; have no religious affiliation; adore Italian and Indochinese food; and will not wear sandals. My favorite bands starting with "S" are Stereo Total, Stereolab, Sparks, Soft Cell, the Smiths, Siouxsie & the Banshees, and The Suburban Lawns.

Not that you asked, but my favorite out-of-print books are:

The Laziest Secretary in the World by Jennifer Blowdryer

Whistling Song by Stephen Beachy

Cigarette Waltz by Philip-Dimitri Galas

Good Times/Bad Times by James Kirkwood

Cannibal In Manhattan by Tama Janowitz

All Fall Down by James Leo Herlihey

Paradise by Patrick Dennis

Remember Me by Bo Huston

Here's a more comprehensive list of my fave books

Right is me c. 1986 as a post-punk, fashion victim, activante go-go dancing with performance artistes, The Popstitutes. We also ran a queer cabaret called Klubstitute. (Read about it and my adventures with Diet Popstitute at Webstitute.) In the '90s I was a campadelic DJ at Baby Judy's niteclub. Nowadays I try never to wear more than one piece of absurd clothing at a time and tend to fall asleep before midnight.
